• The Miri Go-Kart Circuit has been confirmed as the race venue for Round 4.
• This will be the first ever Supermoto race to be held in Sarawak.
• Riders Chris Hodgson (UK), Sangeeth Suriyage (Sri Lanka), Pedro Wuner (Indonesia), Jason Park (South Korea), and Mohd Al-Amirul Ashshahid bin .Mohd Salleh aka Gaban (Malaysia) have been added into the line-up
• New riders are expected to provide fierce competition for the existing riders.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, September 22 2015 – The 2015 FIM Asia Supermoto Championship has come to a halfway point as it enters its fourth leg of the season. Eleven of the world’s best Supermoto riders from over eight countries will gather at the Miri Go-Kart Circuit in Kuching, East Malaysia this September 26th and 27th to participate in the fourth round of this year’s championship. This will mark the first time Sarawak has ever hosted a Supermoto race.
This round will witness a few riders being added into the line-up. 26 year old British rider Chris Hodgson will be stepping in as a wildcard. Hodgson has been racing since the tender age of six and has been participating in Motocross races for over ten years. In 2004, Hodgson decided to make the switch to Supermoto racing after winning the Scottish Championship. Some of his best achievements include being the British Supermoto 450 and Open Class Champion for four years in a row from 2011 to 2014 as well as being the 2014 IMF Malaysia Champion. Fans can expect Hodgson to give some fierce competition to the other riders at Miri.
Also joining in on the action at Miri will be Sri Lanka’s Sangeeth Suriyage. The 22 year old rider is currently the SM2 National Championship leader back in his home country. Earlier this year, Suriyage came in first in the 250cc Supermotard category during Round 2 of the 2015 Katukurunda Circuit Meet. “A big thanks to the FIM Asia Federation for giving me this opportunity to participate in an international race. This will be a great exposure and learning experience for me,” stated the rider.
2014 Indonesian Supermoto Champion Pedro Wuner will be heating things up as well in Round 4. The 32 year old Indonesian rider will be racing on behalf of the AHRS Djagung Racing Factory. Aside from being crowned last year’s Indonesian Supermoto Champion, Wuner was also the first runner-up in the 2009 and 2010 Indonesia Freestyle Motocross Championship. He was also crowned the Indonesian Novice Champion in 2007 and 2008.
South Korea’s top Supermoto rider Jason Park is also set to participate in the upcoming round. Park has represented his nation before in this championship back in 2012 and will be returning once again to continue where he left off. Some of Park’s achievements include finishing third in the 2015 Philippines Superbike Championship (Class 2 Middleweight category), finishing third in the 2013 Korea Supermoto Race, and finishing second in the 2012 Korea Supermoto Race.
Also set to race in Round 4 is Mohd Al-Amirul Ashshahid bin Mohd Salleh or better known as Gaban. The rider from Kenny Motorworks Racing Team was the 2012 Malaysian Super Series (Superstock) Champion, 2012 Malaysian Supermoto Series (S2) Champion, and 2011 S2 Champion in the Malaysian Supermoto Championship. Gaban will be racing alongside his younger brother Mohd Habibullah bin Mohd Salleh aka Gabit who is currently fourth in the championship’s overall standings with 104 points. Both brothers are well loved by Malaysian fans and are expected to receive a thunderous amount of support as they race in their home country.
